I don't think they are so much interested in selling crap as getting people
to go to their websites so that they can install viruses, trojans,
keyloggers etc on one's computer.

I hadn't thought of that. Even so, I'd really be surprised if the
regulars in this newsgroup would engage in such risky behavior.

I've never been to any of the spamvertised sites and I never intend to
go there.

Hi!

> It looks as tho .yahoo is next for the spam bin.

That's something else I hadn't touched on...I'm also loathe to start
wholesalely blocking not so much because of my own interests but also
because there are people who for whatever reason will come here via
Google Groups or with a freely provided e-mail address who really do
need help with something.

Whether anyone would care to admit it or not, Google Groups is the one
"immediately obvious" choice for many of these people who have no idea
what Usenet is* or who have been unceremoniously booted off of the
real deal by their ISP.

I can put up with some annoyance (and I've developed some pretty good
filters that are catching 96% or so of the offending posts) if it
means being able to help someone out with a problem or question.

William

* yes, I know that some of these people behave in a dumb fashion.
However, there are some that don't suffer from that despite not
knowing what Usenet really is.

@yahoo.cn is the one to block, in fact, probably anything ending in .cn!

Yet more Usenet posters have addressed Charles Novins publicly, all
expressing regret for past actions, and vowing to join him in the fight
against online abuse.

The original abuses and libels were spread across numerous groups, but often
originated in, "alt.usenet.kooks," which had become an "internet cesspool in
recent years.

A brief look is sufficient:
http://sikoz.notlong.com

Some posters insisted on public apologies, and several others have done the
fight thing privately; Many decided to correct their intemperate comments,
without the need for any resort to courts or formal agreements.

A few of those insisting on a public statement may be referenced at these
links:

Meanwhile, the fight continues.

One attorney tried his hand at libel - while disbarred for other
infractions - and after getting his law license back, maintains a lower
profile:

The typical libeler has more common drives, skin-color often being one.
This guy posts as "Henri:"

This anonymous hater seems to have a problem with Novins's Jewish heritage:
http://jewlawyer.notlong.com
Others have had trouble with the law, and can operate only online in
relative safety:
http://allaboutglb.notlong.com
Still others fight hard to keep the poisonous hate going - if the pointless
conflicts are resolved through apologies, retractions, they fear they'll be
seen as the "odd person out." These sorts have been hating and abusing for
so long, they know little else. This particular one eschews easy access for
others to her ravings, and removes them from the web. Her Usenet comments

The Law Offices of Charles Novins has become a clearinghouse for information
about anonymous internet stalkers, harrassers, abusers, and other online
undesirables. The firm also has acquired a large store of knowledge,

more unfortunate players.

Sony KV-2784R died - horiz collapse - fuse F501 blown - pressing power
button causes TV to try to start then stops - very soft high freq buzz
is heard. Remote control will not start it. HOT and all diodes in area
test OK with ohmmeter. Fuse is somewhat blackened at end where it
seperated, so it wasn't a slight overload. I do not have schematics.
Is there any history of common component failures here.Just for ref, I
am very technical and had a repair shop in the 80's - this was built
11/86 - just after I closed the shop. So speak to me at that level,
thx.

Hi!

In light of that, are you sure that the low power/standby power supply
is working properly? Perhaps it sustained some damage during the
failure, or a protection circuit opened up?

I've found that usually when a fuse is blackenend the problem is
generally close to the fuse like one of the bridge diodes. I'm
assuming you replaced the fuse and the ne one blew the same way? Look
for something dead shorted. Lenny

If you post your e-mail address, I can help you with the schematic.

Is anyone familiar with these radios? They were originally furnished
to the blind. This one appears to be tuned to 90.1MHZ. I don't know if
there is still any sub carrier stuff around but in any case I would
like to see if I can change the receiver frequency. There is a crystal
but perhaps there may be enough room to move without replacing it.
Thanks, Lenny

FM channels are on 200 kHz centers. I doubt you will be able to rubber the

I think the static charge thing refers to a force produced directly by a
static charge on the plastic meter face acting against the needle, not a
current flowing through the coil.

Confusing.

Transmission lines are usually at a higher voltage. How did he step it down?
For that matter, how did he connect it to his distribution box?

Someone recently brought in a Norcent PT4235 plasma TV. It had apparently
"just quit". When I plug it in, the relays click a couple of times like it's
trying to start, and a bit of static flashes on the screen, but that's it.
I looked under the back cover and didn't see any bulged or leaking caps,
nor did I find any obvious shorts in the many high-wattage transistors.
Before I go any further with this, I'd like to know if there are any known
issues that someone could point me to. This set has a massive number of
power supplies in it, and I really don't want to waste several hours on
something that may not be fixable in the first place. This is a very cheap
brand of set (retailed for just $700 new), so I doubt it's worth spending
much time on.
Thanks for any advice.

I would like to replace this two-wire, 80mm square, power supply fan. The
power supply is used in an AudioReQuest music server and is powered on
continuously. The part number is, NMB-MAT 7 followed by a model number of,
3110GL-B4W-B54. 12V DC, 0.30A. I've found a few places online that have them
listed but when I call they, don't have them in stock or the price is
prohibitively expensive. Is there some generic fan that will replace this
and not cost more than the power supply itself?

Thanks for your reply.

Get the data sheet for that fan (it's probably old, hence out of
production), and compare with the information available on this page for
newer fans.

Then find your local retailers for the equivalent.

Is there a Fry's near you? It has a variety of fans, in various sizes. You
can probably find a close or exact match.
