Thanks for the tip. I tried pulling and putting it in neutral - no
effect, but worth a try.

I fear that it's something like that with mine. But I'm not going to
live with pulling the battery when not in use, so I'll probably get a
new one. Which wouldn't be so bad, after all.

Probably the best bet, particularly when the cost of repair comes close to buying the same tool over again. And as Ralph pointed out, you get a new battery as well. If it's the same exact tool, you'll also have some parts.

What about installing an on/off switch to isolate the battery from the
pcb when not in use?

That's a good idea - thanks. Wouldn't be the 1st time that I've done a
bodge like that 8-) I'll look into it.

Jeff,

Thanks again, I tried the Loctite above based on your recommendation and
the price and it worked great, exactly as you said - it is a great glue
for close-fitting parts! I added a 3/4" wide strip of aluminum cut from
a rain gutter and screwed that into place around the joint for extra
support, covered that with black tape, used the headphones several
times, problem solved and it's not too noticeable. Thanks for your
detailed reply.

Thanks Mikek, that would make for a very strong joint, if my current fix
breaks I'll see if there's enough plastic material to support this
approach. Cheers.

I know this post is 10 years old, but I found somewhere that it reduces
"mechanical ringing" to help optimize the focus. I came across this chip in a
teardown and wondered similarly what it's purpose was.

He/she/it managed to spam EVERY Usenet group that I subscribe to -
several haven't had a post in years...

I thought GG had filters to prevent that sort of thing.

My Panasonic nn sf464m has started to do this too. It's only a year old, did anyone find a fix?
