Uses "3 disc triple play , play & exchange" 3 drawers stacked over one
another and the CD deck on an elevator system to access them. Can anyone
point to explanation of the mechanics of this or as used in other models.
Uses 6 motors in all. The elevator looks like 2 steppers built inside
cylindrical cam actuators and a mode switch, 5 +5 traces to the motors and
10 way to limit/mode something.

The service manual has a full blown dismantling procedure for the changer
(which seems to be called a "CD Changer Mech Type VC3" , but no actual
description of how it works. I could send you the manual if you have an
account that could accept it, but last I recall, you were not broadband, so
a 15 meg pdf would take about a year for you to download ?? Contact me
off-group if you want to try to arrange something.

the CD changer mechanics look the same as the older PC-XC10 , the active
electronics board is different.
5 wire mode switch inside each cam and separate 10 line connection for limit
switches. Cams driven by cog train from a standard DC motor each ,
elsewhere, so 4 motors only. One for trays and one for CD deck elevator.
Will try some DC on these motors and see what happens.

The XC10 has much the same info (or not), exploded views only. Desoldering
the 4 CD deck motor points and removing the main pcb along and knowing now
being able to power ordinary motors, outside the chassis, should ellicit
enough. When I get back to it.
Got bogged down with a massive German massager chair repair at the moment ,
that needs repairing and clearing , to give space - a priority.
2x2x5 foot leather-clad awkward heap.

Using 8V one motor powers the shift helical cam and the other moves drawer
and sub draws in and out and the CD deck up and down via a PTO linkage and
its helical cam. Limit switches work as well. Leaves just something wrong
with the mode sw or "cam switches" as JVC calls them. There is the matrix
for all those in the manual but to progress all that manually seems too
much.

How come some of the old B&W programs on the "Oldies Channel"
(THIS-TV) are black and white, while others are tinted, usually black
and greenish white. Yes, the color programs are accurately colored,
so it's not that the tv colors are off, and some B&W programs are
actually correct. Is this in the film or is the tv transmitter wrong?

Filmed B&W programs are often transferred with a color camera or telecine
and transmitted as a color signal. The transfer equipment might not be set
up correctly.
It's also possible your TV's tracking is off, but you say some B&W programs
look okay, so that's not likely.
I occasionally watch this, and haven't noticed any unusual color casts in
B&W shows ("Bat Masterson", "Sea Hunt", etc).
I've noticed something similar on Blu-rays, both color and B&W. Scenes
appearing in the supplemental material have a different color balance or
cast, even though they're presumably derived from the same source. "North by
Northwest" and "Young Frankenstein" are good examples.

Could it be that these are programs/movies that were 'colorized' in the
very early days of that process -- which rendered ghastly results IMO,
and which have simply never been re-colorized with new techniques?

No. No one would colorize an entire TV series, as the cost would be
outrageous.
The newer computer-controlled colorizings are excellent.

Neither. The color burst has to be turned off for B&W programming,
so the color killer circuit doesn't create artifacts. Stations used to
be very careful about this, but over the years some just don't bother
anymore.

Not true. NTSC is neither inherently inaccurate or unstable.
In any case, I think this is digital, and doesn't used NTSC encoding.

The UK PAL (Phase Alternate Line) inverts the subcarrier phase on alternate
lines so phase distortion during transmission cancells itself out - NTSC
doesn't and is inherently prone to drift, hence it was dubbed; Never Twice
the Same Colour.
Aparently the US military incorporated a swinging phase error in their GPS
satelites to stop all and sundry using it without the decoding key - it was
a British engineer that cracked it using a technique based on PAL
technology.

It may be the source material, too. These days, most everything is
digital, even what the stations play from probably comes off of a
computer.
You don't mention where you are. ThisTV is from Weigel Communications,
which is based in Chicago and broadcasts on WCIU (ThisTV is 26.5). One
of the technicians (hvs10trk) is a regular on this forum:

Drift of /what/? I've wasted many hours explaining why NTSC is, overall,
better than PAL.
The US video distribution system never had much trouble with phase errors.
European systems did.

I researched the cause of common failures and related what I
found...all you needed to do was suggest using better/more appropriate
capacitors. Instead you and "Meatball" chose to belittle my effort.
My only thought in posting was that someone else might fix their flat
panel and save it from the trash.

Villa is a troll. He trolls alt.home.repair with the same bullshit.
Probably a few others too.

Thank you. You win the "first person to actually provide useful
information in this whole damn thread" award.

Moin zusammen,

Sorry, wrong news group. Should have gone to de.sci.electronics.
If anyone of those reading here has good or bad experiences with the
LM13700 OTA as variable resistor in a voltage divider circuit, please
let me know!
