Bad guess: I got a pilot's license.... and quit once it dawned on me
that my own incompetence could now kill me.

The information you are searching for is in the simple 'distracted
driving' summary, in the census link you've posted.

Looks like traveling at 45 mph is a real danger.

Some more information I saw today
https://www.yahoo.com/autos/traffic-deaths-on-the-rise-whats-really-to-127169729382.html

The National Safety Council reported this week that traffic deaths and
serious injuries in the U.S. are on a pace to rise for the first time in
nearly a decade. If the trend for the first six months of this year
continues, the NSC says traffic fatalities in the nation will exceed
40,000 for the first time since 2007 and deaths per 100 million vehicle
miles traveled also will increase.

This despite evermore crashworthy cars and high-tech electronic safety
features.

The "speed kills" coalition will blame the trend reversal on many
states' recent moves to higher highway speed limits, but the real
culprits, suggests NSC president Deborah Hershman to the Associated
Press, are low fuel prices and – get ready for it – cellphone mania.

To be sure, Hershman says, Americans are on the road more than ever;
miles driven in the U.S. increased for 15 consecutive months through May
and set an all-time record for travel in the first five months of the
year at 1.26 trillion miles, a record that stood since 2007. But, the
3.4% increase in miles traveled doesn't square with the 14% jump in
fatalities for the first half of this year.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has a prominent page on its
website that says "states continue to raise speed limits despite clear
evidence that doing so leads to more deaths" – an assertion that
considerable data and many experts have suggested is specious. Instead,
cellphone use likely has a more direct link to the new rise in traffic
fatalities and injuries. An NSC study earlier this year indicated
cellphone use is a factor in one quarter of all accidents.

Tranny arrived today. I found some spanners big enough to get the old one
out. Fitted the replacement, along with an inrush thermistor from Farnell,
and two new level pots (both the originals went round and round ... ).
Gingerly powered it via the variac and Lo! Up it came !

Which was a relief, because I'm not sure that it looks like one that I would
want to be trying to repair an output stage on, particularly if it was the
lower board that had failed ...

Bucketfuls of watts poured out of both channels, and the fan cut in just
when expected, so I heaved a sigh of relief, screwed the cover back on, and
wrote the ticket out. Then gave myself a hernia getting it off the bench ...
:-)

** Hope you also tried a few on-off cycles to check out the new PTC.

Did you find one close to the original at Farnell ?

Hopfully exchanging it for ransom otherwise known as the repair bill.

Yup, in a sense we are licensed kidnappers.

Butchery autopsy report on the Tx?
Bifilar wound hotspot at the most insulation-stressed point? blown
thermal fuse? failed PbF coilwire/tail joint?

Yeah, I powered it on and off a number of times, and it was all ok. I found
some fibreglass mat sleeve in a box of junk to enclose the new thermistor.
As to the suitability of the thermistor, I found one rated at 20 amps at
Farnell. Slightly smaller diameter - but still big - and a bit thicker.
Couldn't find the original value though. The replacement was an ohm or so
lower, but I figured that some limiting has gotta be better than none, and
as soon as the relay drops in - which is actually quite quick - it's shorted
out of circuit anyway.

Maybe. Or maybe just return it to the shop and let them show it to the owner
/ chuck it in their industrial-rated bin. Or I might hang on to it to
autopsy later, but I'm not sure that I can actually be bothered to spare the
time. These days, I never seem to have the time to do all the things that I
really *want* to do, let alone the stuff that's just for interest's sake.
Perhaps it should just be a case of 'It's bolloxed, the replacement worked,
the repair put another meal on the table, move on ... ' :-)

Are you sure it is PTC ? Kinda seems like it ought to be NTC.
N_Cook <diverse@tcp.co.uk>: Aug 20 09:51PM +0100

> Are you sure it is PTC ? Kinda seems like it ought to be NTC.

No ptc or ntc in there. If I'd put a thermistor in there, it would be
low R cold and high R warm.
Worked out the etiology of failure.
Dust and grime stalling the front fan. Amp still runs on rear fan. But
stall currrent must overheat this 27R 2W dropper , before the TIP
bypasses the current , on high demand. 27R goes high with the excess heat.
Eventually the rear fan would not have enough drive, as presumably only
2 or 3 V when the front fan is stalled and passing thru 38R.
At that stage the amp would cut out , well before any large power use,
so not enough drive to kick the fans into operation.
As I received it the front fan would operate fitfully, not actually stalled.
To check for 2 fans operating , as a test, in cold drive of 6V it is
possible to stall the rear fan with a rod and then listen for the front
fan. Plus a torch shone thru from rear t front should show up the level
of dust in the mesh.
N_Cook <diverse@tcp.co.uk>: Aug 21 07:39AM +0100

I originally red that 2W as 27R. Looking closer to it ,
orange/brown/black. Not E24 value but orange is midway orange and
red, more orange than red , the background is light grey. Central section
is slightly darker grey and coating is a bit flakey in a spiral pattern,
so overheated , loosing MO material and going up in resistance.
Definitely brown ring, but I assume the colours were red/purple/black
originally. Going from 27R to 38R

I have a Mitsubishi Unisen LT-52151 that once turned on, it could take up to 2 minutes before the picture shows. The power button illuminates but no picture till much later. This is an LCD 51 inch flat screen. Things I've tried:

1. I've unplugged the TV, replugged it in

2. Used a different HDMI device and a different HDMI cable and proved it was the TV, not any of the HDMI devices connected.

3. Verified the "fast boot" option is enabled. Tried turning this setting on. Still slow. Turned it back on, still slow.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Try small-scale directed hot-air over the caps in the ps while dormant.

About the same as my thoughts. The capacitors in the power supply section
may be going bad. Before too long it may not come on at all.

Ok. Thanks for the history. However, I'm correct that "CAble TV" is
the current acronym of choice.

Some anecdotal history. I got my start in cable with STV
(Subscription TV) in Smog Angeles in about 1966(?). Back then, the
acronym had already morphed into "CAble TV". Oddly, the wireless TV
[1] companies were also calling their stuff "Subscription TV". The
cable companies needed something to differentiate themselves from the
wireless companies, so they borrowed the CATV acronym. Notice how
nobody wanted to invent a new acronym as it was easier to just steal
one from the competition.

Trying not to miss any opportunity I've registered at mercado livre
and asked the vendor if they ship to Germany. The answer: No, only to
locations in Brasil.

Sighing

Did the vendor also mention why?
What payment methods do they offer?
Had this before on eBay, eventually convinced some of them to ship.
A little spamming with nice questions may help growing confidence
if that would be the problem.
Some vendors accepted after I agreed to take the Paypal fees.

Or ... next summer holidays in Brazil :-)

Cheers!

No :-(!

My Google Translator question:

"Olá, você pode por favor me avise se você enviar para a Alemanha?
Quanto é que os custos de transporte, neste caso? Tenho grande
interesse em alguns espécimes de FEJ 271b! Com os melhores
cumprimentos <my nickname>"

The short but clear reply:

"Só comercializamos o produto em território Nacional (Brasil)"

> What payment methods do they offer?

Payment with credit card; no PayPal.

There's no such opportunity ...

I must admit that I'm not a millionaire ;-) ...

Best regards

What exactly are you tring to do? If you are using Windows, you should be able to disable it using the device manager.
