I've had a Nikon 400 laser rangefinder for a number of years now, probably 10 to 12, something like that. We use it infrequently for measuring distance - how far did that Frisbee throw or golf shot go, how far away is that building, etc. It's very useful for sports, none of us hunt any more.

Originally a battery lasted at least couple of years. CR2s are about $10 each, so that wasn't bad.

Now it's a couple of weeks. They seem to discharge when not being used. Is that characteristic of an older electronic device, that it may develop some small leakage current over time. I can leave the battery out until I need it, but I'm curious.

Pretty sure it was direct drive capstan; with a belt from there to the reel
drive ass'y.

Could be wrong, sure, but I don't think I ever saw a JVC consumer unit with
a direct drive reel motor.

The craft shop was next to a retail nursery supermarket, so I bought a
roll of copper slug tape, 30mm wide x.05mm ( apparently better than beer
or eggshells to deter slugs, think touching metal foil to a sensitive
tooth). I assume wider copper foil is available from elsewhere.
She said you could load any data , not necesssary to use their
propretary stuff

She had examples of neatly cut leather about 3mm thick, so presumable
with correct offset for depth of cut , would work on this m/c

Ah, so you stuck your own copper to the self-stick base material for the
machine, and then cut it! Wow, sounds very simple, and avoids paying Rogers
about $1 per square inch!

OK, I will have to tell my contact about this, it looks like a real solution
to a problem. Now, one little detail is how well the copper foil will stick
to the base material after a bunch of flexing, etc. if the copper starts to
come loose, combine that with Lithium 18650 batteries and we could have a
nice fire!

What is an m/c?

It's a robot Master of Ceremonies, otherwise known as a Machine.

Maybe I could give a lesson on 'women folk on my case'. No Honey Do
List, it's a "dead line list". I made it through Tuesday (LMAO).

I would not wash the new board. Place it where the old board was. I would
collect $5 for every complaint. If they don't like that then tell them to go
to the stream with their rocks.
