N_Cook <diverse@tcp.co.uk>: Jun 22 02:47PM +0100 With just the main PA rail AC supply connected, no load, sometimes at switch on will draw sustained >2 amp , so quickly switched off. At 50% mains , sustained 1 amp draw until switched off. Mains Tx ok on its own. DVM-D cold testing of PA devices and bridge rect etc check out reasonable. What to look for cold initially? I may try hot test again with the speaker output pcb disconnected as speaker protector thtristors on there. Initially one output channel failed soon after power up, which could be sp prot failure presumably, mains fuse did not blow though but that >=500W would be going somewhere it shouldn't. Perhaps another 50% mains half second try out and see if a thyristor is hot. |

Easy enough. >16volts 1000uF, I suppose the bag of caps in the basement for the last >30 years are too old to use???? If so I'll buy a new one. I had two never-used caps of the right size in the basement and I was too impatient to try to test them, so I just used one to replace the original. It didn't work. Finally someone suggested what I already knew and forgot, to test the speaker with a battery. It clicked the first time the battery was touched to the plug but not again. Then clicked again when the plug tip and ring were shorted to each other. So the speaker was good and probably always good. I should have done this first. And that means the left channel of the amplifier probably has a problem. >That still leaves the possibility that something about the first-pair >speaker that works broke and it didn't pass the sound on to the other >one. They use different channels of the same amplifier. That appears to be the case. >But it was hard** to open the speaker, so I'll do the cap first. The grill along with its grill cloth was glued in place in the first speaker, and I had to break two of the four plastic prongs to take it off, which was needed to find the screws and take off the back. I suspect the other one is glued too and don't want to break it open, especially since it's going to a friend who only, for some reason, wants one speaker. At least for now. So what good would it do to fix it. I'll keep the second speaker, which has an RCA plug on it. Thanks for the help. |

Oh, and let's not even go into what I can't find in the new version of that, which is what I run at work. Try Palemoon, it's a fork of FF 24, IIRC. I gave up on FF a number of months ago, converting all my computers to Palemoon. I got fed up with the constant updates that made FF *less* usable and configurable. The final straw was the major interface changes and the need for at least 5 extensions and a multitude of customizations to reverse. |

On the air-movement lack of design, instead of drilling small screws through the h/s for the pcb mounting screws, they deep milled off the corners so making it even less likely the air will pass through the restriction of the h/s vanes |

However the "12 Volt" thing jumped out at me first. w/r/t desktop fans I just match physical size, number (and function) of wires and rated current draw or volume of air moved. Sometimes only a few of the preceeding. ;) -- Shaun. "Humans will have advanced a long, long way when religious belief has a cozy little classification in the DSM*." Well, good to know. Also that 91% is good enough for this job. Stuff I wouldn't even think to think about, turns out to be very relevant. I tried to find and clean the mirror. No success getting in far enough. Now it often reads when first loaded. But has trouble after it's loaded, and stopped, on finding it to read again. Can't imagine what causes that? |
