I also have a BT 501MW, which was manufactured back in 1987 and sold in the Netherlands.

heh.. How cute!
A google grooper's "Me Too" followup to a 3-year-old followup --
which, itself, was yet another google grooper doing a followup
on a 13-year-old post from Sept. 2, 2001.

Patches at the access point end are relatively unimportant.

What you need to patch most are your client devices.

LEDE 17.01.4 includes the KRACK fixes, no point not upgrading.

True, but it includes an optional AP-side workaround for devices that
haven't been (may never be?) patched ...

Tuner works but nothing on any input function speakers or phones. Cold
testing what is accessible of the amp seems ok.
I suspect uPC1237 protect area, probably drift causing false protect,
but not removed the top board to probe that area yet.
Good SM is out there.
Any known drift component in those amps over 30 years?
Plenty of yellow peril, now dark brown, milk-glue but tuner working ,
where marginal conductivity would show up.

Reading that I thought we should have mentioned centrifuging to assist
gravity. But getting the orientation right would be tricky/impossible.
So perhaps the alternative is to strap the unit to your body and take it
(still wet) on a roller-coaster. It may not help but hopefully was
enjoyable!

As much as I hate to disagree with Peter, let me offer this example as a potential candidate for a quality AM radio (about two weeks left on auction for those reading this from the future):

Are you sure, or is the owner of a $550 handheld transistor radio
just going to to insist it is high quality?
At best the ferrite rod will only be 4" long and probably only 3-1/2".
