PROBLEM SOLVED
Not used to the Type J 6v battery. After insertion you push slightly to one edge until it snaps in. EMBARRASSING !!!

All functions work! Thanks

The best sort of fix -- fix the operator!

** Obviously, a shorted cap does not hide from an ohm meter, but will defy any meter trying to read its ESR.

Bob Parker's meter WILL read the ESR of caps in parallel with an inductor or transformer winding - not uncommon in SMPS and loudspeaker x-overs.

I wonder if this is the clutch he "replaced"?

He doesn't know the olde heat and bend the rod trick... maybe use some all
thread and burn an adjustment hole in the floorboard.

You reminded me, I had to add a spring in line with the wire, as the
wire would break when it cooled down.
