Not so - they were designed from the start for 'in' 'out' and 'spur'. But
of course only if using the correct cables.

Are you a magician. ? The point of captive nuts is no spanner required to
turn the nut as there is no access plus easier manufacturing of the chassis.
I've found some 4mm captive/caged nuts, that with a bit of coaxing will go
into the existing holes in the chassis without enlarging. And 4mm stainless
steel bolts of the right length. The 3 screws at the rear are into cabinet
wood that may as well be made of paper as far as resisting the weight of 2
large transformers + + in a cantilever action.

BTW that decayed horse manure or goaty smell inside the amp . What is it
they add to winding wire insulation in the US that biologically breaks down
with UK damp air or whatever is the cause. No particularly unpleasant but
I'd rather the workshop smelled of bakelite or shellac say, rather than a
farmyard

** There is ZERO " cantilever action" involved - since the front of
the chassis is firmly trapped between the top and sides of the cabinet and
the speaker baffle.

I've held regular nuts in my fingertips while threading them onto
screws in Fender combos many, many times. It's not magic but requires
a degree of manual dexterity. Once the nut contacts the star washer it
can be released and the screw tightened from above. If there is enough
room to get your fingertips on the end of the screw there's enough
room to do it this way.

Didn't we go over this a while back? And what makes you think it's
coming from winding wire?

Either you have scissor-hands or these are not original screws. These nuts
are internal of the chassis, not on an external ledge. Overall length 37mm .
Width of cab and spreader plates 25mm , 2mm chassis thickness leaving you
with 37 minus 27 mm to get fingers in and long enough to reach the front
ones. 10mm or 3/8 inch

** A 1979 Fender Twin Reverb is the 135 watt model - with ultra-linear
output stage.

The chassis looks like this:

http://www.tru-solutions.jp/Fender_Twin_Reverb_79_JBL_04.jpg

The black steel U-clips take the thread of the four top bolts - they will
also accept ordinary self tapping screws of the right size.

The three holes in the back edge take self tapping screws driven into the
top of the cabinet and will hold the chassis solidly in place *on their
own*.

You lying fuckwit.

I've done this with my early 70's Twin, a 60's Deluxe, and a few
others. I doubt if Fender changed their chassis anchoring strategy
in a 1979 model. I don't have scissor-hands but can hold a nut
well enough to thread it onto a screw without tools. If you can grab
the end of the screw with your finger tips you can thread a nut onto
it.

Well that is certainly different than the Fender chassis I'm referring
to where the bolts go through the chassis and out the bottom.

And those don't look like captive nuts they are clips with a hole in
the middle to hold on a metal screw and not a machine thread.

I have a disgruntled customer with a 2 year old amplifier built into a
vibrating box (combo amp and speaker). It has 2 failed solder joints and
about 10 visibly and tug-test near to failure joints and perhaps 20 that
will fail in the next 5 years perhaps. Where is there a non technical
article on the WWW that explains the problems of unforgiving hard brittle
solder/ tin pest . I can find plenty of stuff on tin whiskers which really
only applies to fine geometry components , computers mainly.

90V seems low for a GM, is there a step up circuit to 300V or so ?

Yes it uses some kind of step-up circuit, and the output to the GM tube is
about 300-400 volts.

I use an ex military GM tube with ditched 1960s electronics (some strange
battery required although transistor) and my own inverter to sweep the
workshop every now and then . I forget what voltage drives it but I remember
that if it was set too high it would self discharge internally causing
regular clicks .
Now there is no thorium loaded gas mantles around these days , nor radium
dials , what is commonly around to give an above background check that they
are working ?

If one has elevated radon levels, there is a rise near your furnace air filter,
if its electrostatic material. Still, you have to integrate the meter to see
average increases. I still have an old bedside clock around, as well
as my Pentax lens, 50mm vintage early 70's. You can buy Uranium stuff.
On one meter I use there is a calibration spot on the side. I don't know how many smoke detectors
have it, but it seems hard to measure through the case.

ordinary domestic smoke detectors use alpha emitters so not much use for GM
checking should anyone be unwise to break into the shielding (shielding
probably more to keep people out, than the alpha in, as almost anything
blocks it)

Already tried that, and I replaced all the ceramic capacitors in the
circuit. By gas-discharge tube, are you referring to the neon lamp inside?
There's another tube, with just two leads, that I can't identify or test.

Or simply don't subject your Fluke 87 to "violent shock".

Now she cannot win. If she asks for 20, 20 Carat Diamonds, give her 40
and let me know if she is happy. Wonderfully innovative idea and not a
bad price either. Imagine a juice glass having a 20 carat Diamond in
it. I think, it's better to call it a 20 Carat Self-destructive
Suckable Diamond.

With the increasing number of USB devices, it sure is needed. Up to 2
PCs can connect to the hub but not at the same time. It has a built-in
22.5W power supply. The switch on the hub allows you to switch the 16
ports from one connected computer to another.

There are never enough ports.

The emote Controlled Switch Sockets are designed for remotely
controlling any electrical device connected to it. You can connect
lamps, appliances etc. The remote requires one 12-volt battery. It is
having a 100 feet range and operates on 433.92 MHz frequency. With
this RF communication setup, unlike (IR: Infrared) you can point the
remote in any direction as long as it is within 100 feet line-of-sight
range it will work perfect. In reality, if there are walls or the
socket is hidden behind the sofa or if it is in the basement then you
might not get a full 100 ft range.

Looks like, this time I will not forget my umbrella. One umbrella will
last for life time provided you do not forget to replace batteries.
Very innovative approach towards solving very common problem of
