What 440V equipment did they connect this power to?

Over here every man and his dog wants at least two in their PC tower

Not always a good idea. Some have a synthetic lubrication which will
turn into sludge if you add a non synthetic oil to it. You can
sometimes get away with it on sleeve bearings particularly older fans.

Hi!

> Not always a good idea.

I doubt the tolerances are that close in this sort of application. From what
I've seen, and from pre-emptively oiling fans before they could fail, very
few fan makers provide much of any additional lubrication to the fan
bearings. It's a rare fan that I've exposed the bearings on and found a
chunk of grease in there.

Of the fans I've rejuvenated by oiling, only a few were unresponsive to
treatment or would not continue running. These were the cheapest of the
cheap--all the rest continue to run perfectly.

I've never had the any luck rejuvenating fans with lubrication after the
fan's bearings have started to howl. By that stage of the game, the fan's cheap
worn out plastic bearings have so much slop, that nothing short of perhaps axle
grease will fill the slop.

OP says that the hum is present when recording from both mic and line
inputs. Sounds like a ground connection is broken somewhere around V101,
V102 or V103. Also check those tubes for heater-cathode short. Check line
record level pot and mic record level pot for broken grround connection or
open wiper.
Make sure that the bias oscillator (V103B) is running in record mode.

Would be easiest for you to call some of the service parts vendors for part
number, cost and availability.
MCM Electronics

Greetings,

Can someone tell me the part # of the magnetron for microwave oven
Emerson MW9107WC?
I know I could probably just take it apart and see for myself, but
would like to determine cost effectiveness of getting a replacement
part and repairing myself, bringing to service technician, or just
getting a new one.
Thanks for reading,
Yimin

According to Emerson's web site, and owner's manual, the warranty on
the magnetron is 7 years (parts only):

Thanks Chuck, I was just going to ask that.

How is it usually checked.

There is no continuity between coils at DC.
coil resistance seems within reason but as low as it is that probably
isn't a very good test.
I haven't got one laying around to sub.
It is, after all, 24 yrs old. But the CRT is still OK.

Can they be had and at what price????????

Though I think you'd have to load the picture somewhere first like

I imagine that is for copyright infringement tracing, kept returning 0

Not really much to photograph
The widgets have a shape like bootlace ferrules but not for crimping as
thicker brass and also silver plating. Maybe a variant of turret tags for
setting in pcb without the turrets or some sort of terminal or pin.
12.5 mm long, hole through axis with a ridge around the outside, one end 1mm
hole and 2.5mm outside dimension and other end 2.8mm hole and 3.8mm outside.

Nothing to stop you suing him for libel here.
English libel law is the most vicious and illiberal in the Western world.

Hi!

That NMB fan is actually a pretty good quality unit, although I have
seen some failed ones over the years.

What you might do to extend its lifetime is to simply oil the
bearings. That will quiet it down and keep it running for many more
years to come. Just lift the label, remove a little rubber plug (only
with some fans) and drop some light oil in there.

Even if you replace the fan, you might want to do the same thing to
the replacement. Doing so can drastically increase the lifetime of the
fan, especially if the replacement is cheap.

Since this is for a client, it needs to last longer than 6 months. Also, the
cost of transporting it back and forth costs more than the fan replacement.

I think we have a winner! $6.99 and free shipping. Tough to beat that.

It's a slim shot, but you might try (when powered down) measuring resistance
from the output side of all voltage regulators and rectifiers looking for a
short to ground. (Often the rectifiers are TO-220 packages).
Saved my ass once recently. A Samsung plasma with power supply issues - and
the board no longer available from Samsung. Robbed a TO-220 rectifier of the
same type off a scrap board.

A common cause of this problem is a shorted sustain card. This
appears to use an LG panel. One troubleshooting method on these
panels is to unplug the TV, disconnect the cable linking the power
supply to a sustain card, then plug the TV in again and see if the
power supply turns on. If that didn't help, disconnect the next
sustain card.

That's easy (unless some rules have been broken).

Google 'usb device id list' and ask your operating system what device id
it sees.

for and also a few

That is a bit harder, needs human eyes. Can you post a picture on
somewhere like photobucket?

Search engines do not analyse pictures. You do need to up load pictures and have experts analyse,
like a forum for silver plated brass widgets. You show them where to find pictures.

By the way, Yahoo still favors using Flicker for their image library, but
have greatly improved their image library. I have also noticed they are better
than Google at indexing many websites, and like always, you have to use different
search engines to find the info you are looking for.

There is a simple solution. A robot network that does a DOS on all IPs
that are found in spams, so that spammers find that they are spending
a lot of money on their Internet connection and getting no return from
the investment.

Now if someone would actually do that. All it takes is a short little
program that grabs the spam web page, over and over and over and over.

The input section has severe AC hum when recording via the Microphone
& direct line but playback through the output & headphone jacks is
fine. If anybody is familiar with working on these any help with
listing the usual high failure suspects & what parts should be
upgraded would be greatly appreciated. I just moved & misplaced my ESR
tester so I'll definitely need to find it to test all the old caps in
this one some of which obviously need to be replaced. I tried printing
out the schematic off the net but for some reason my computer
(Powerbook G4) wouldn't print it. I repaired TVs/VCRs/stereos for 35
years but not many vintage tube audio units.

Thanks, Mark

How is the OP is recording, from Line or MIC? Don't remember and you
snipped the quote.

Hum balance is R-147?

Yimin

Agreed. Odd are he tapped into a neighborhood line. Although 20
years ago the homeless people living under the freeways in Miami, FL
routinely tapped into the 400 volt lines for the freeway lights.

What 440V equipment did they connect this power to?

If you want long and quiet service, make sure that you get one with roller

If you caught it in time, you can try relubing the bearins which will
get you by for a while.

Remove from PC and soak in 30 weight oil, clean up, put back in

Well, that particular model is no longer made, but the 3110 series were
1" (0.98") fans with a standard mounting hole pattern. The same hardware
that was used to mount his old fan would work on the RS model.

Thanks very much for these detailed insights. Perhaps if I get
adventurous (I'm not an electronics person) I'll open the case and
poke around with a toothpick to see if it changes anything. It may
well be from my amateur position that this will turn out to be more
expensive to repair than would be worth it. It has been a great radio
though, and if anyone gets the chance to acquire one in good condition
they should take it. If the toothpick treatment doesn't work maybe
someone will want it for parts, since 90% of it is still in good
shape.

the AC comes in on the right, passes thru some rectifiers and large
caps etc. There is a small metal box on the left which I believe has a
switching PS in it - haven't opened it yet.
The fuse is about in the middle on the back edge - a mini fuse - just
about where the horiz section starts - the HOT is on the left side
near the box.
I don't see another fuse and none near the ac line.

None of what you've just said makes the slightest difference. You're
trying to attribute spammers' behavior to some kind of logic, which is
completely undeserved.

Methinks their strategy is usually (always?) some variant of "just throw
a bunch of shit at the wall and see what sticks". Posting spam here and
elsewhere costs them pretty much nothing; why *shouldn't* they do it?
(From their POV, of course, not mine.) It's not as if they're doing any
kind of sophisticated econometric analysis to see how they should
allocate their marketing resources ...

Any 2-wire, 80mm, 12VDC, 0.30A (approx) will do. Got a Radio Shack nearby?
http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2102826 will do.

Probably cheaper at some place like Frys.

Find another fan that has the same mounting holes (80mm -- note the
*thickness* of the fan, also!) and operates at 12V with <= 0.30A.
Chances are, it's just a generic fan.

If you have access to a lot of surplus fans, look for one
with a ball bearing *and* something that is "quiet" (assuming
noise is an issue).

Sure, if you're to use cable ties and/or duct tape to mount it and assuming
the replacement isn't thicker than the original.

Otherwise, it's good idea to check the thickness and mounting method.

Is that, " £0.50p" some type of currency? (-;

How much is that in US dollars and cents?

If you want long and quiet service, make sure that you get one with roller
bearings, not the cheapo sleeve bearings.

Hi Good Pals,
I'm designing an infrared remote controlled circuit with at least
6 functions. I need ICs that can transmit(thru LED)codes or modulate
signals(from the keypad) and a corresponding ic that will decode or
demodulate the signalsa to activate the loads. A matching circuit for
the IC or circuit of any kind similar to mine will be welcome.
Thanks

Any old IC producing RC5 or whatever code will do at your sending end. I
would think that the easiest thing to do would be to break down an old
remote control handset, and cull all the necessary parts to make your custom
sender. I'm not sure if there are any dedicated decoder ICs still available
these days though. As far as I know, just about every piece of equipment
that uses remote control, carries out the decoding as a background task of
the system control processor. It would, however, be a trivial job to program
a PIC to do the job, and I am sure that ready written code modules for just
about any commonly used data format, would be readily available for free
download on the 'net.

Please can anyone show me an easy- to- use PCB software that can
automaticaly prepare a circuit board after drawing the schematic
diagram? Or one that you just mount the components to get PCB.

Hi, I recently used the services of http://www.expresspcb.com/ the
service was excellent, probably not as sophisticated as some but the
miniPCB deal (Three 2.5"x3.8" boards for $50) is excellent, quality was
good, fast shipping with DC etc.

You should be able to find the shareware versions of IVEX Windraft
and WinBoard on the web for download. The product is no longer
supported, and has a bit of a learning curve. I think the free version
has a 100 pin limit. Product had a few bugs and went through several
revisions, but it should do what you want.

There probably is nothing that can do a reasonable job of
"automatically" creating a board layout, given just the schematic (but I
could be wrong). However, there are packages that have schematic capture
and board layout components that work together to assist *you* to create
the layout.

KiCad http://kicad.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page and gEDA
http://www.gpleda.org/ are each free, open source suites with schematic
capture and board layout.

KiCad has a reasonably active and supportive user community and is
available in versions for both Linux and MS Windows. The principal
author's homepage is over at http://iut-tice.ujf-grenoble.fr/kicad/

I'm less familiar with gEDA. As far as I know, there is not an official
MS Windows distribution available. DJ Delorie may drop by with more
info, though...

You can Change the crystal. Is the crystal the metal can type? If yes
replace it with a 27 MHZ type. These are normally found in Toy cars
remote control.

Thx for the replies..

I pulled the chassis to bring it home - the set is at my other house
and I did not have any tools there.

Therefore I have not replaced the fuse yet as I have nothing to
connect it to.

I was thingking about a low voltage issue because of the remote not
working, I just don't know where that fuse is in the ckt and something
is getting volts as it tries to start. Since it was near the horiz
section I made an assumption. could be wrong.
Don't know if the whistle I hear is the horiz freq or the switching
supply.

thanks David.

I was thinking that is was the AC line fuse that was blackened.
however from what you said it doesn't sound like it. I don't know what
other fuse you could be referring to other than a small chemical fuse
on a 27 inch set though. Lenny.

This set tries to start four times. HV spikes to 20KV each time and
then decays to zero. I've seen where "three strikes" on some of the
RCA's and the Proscan' s pointed to flyback but I'm not sure I've seen
four. Does anyone have any notes on this one?: Thanks, Lenny

If you suspect the flyback, look at the collector pulse with your scope.
