Relax. The instructions in my will are to burn everything to the
ground in a giant funeral pyre. That makes the final distribution of
property rather simple. If there's something you want or need, please
ask before my demise so that I can inform the appropriate tax agency.
The good news is that the first $12,000 is tax free. The bad news is
that the various tax agencies are using eBay prices for appraisals and
don't care if it's working or broken. My guess is that I have a few
more years to live, so your request might be a bit premature.

Unplug the backlight inverter. When these fail, they can cause this sort of

Ok , here is what I did ;
-unplug the TV
-Press VOL- and INPUT at the same time
-Plug TV
TV turned ON with a LK on the screen.
When turning off with power button , POWER & OPC Led blinked 2 times
togheter and power led blinked 3 times alone .
What does this code mean ?

Impossible. The common double insulated #14 AWG electrical cord has
so much plastic insulation covering the wire, that it would be
impossible to hang a pit bull much less tie it into a suitable
hangmans noose. It's just too thick, heavy, and slippery to be
suitable for exterminating satanic dogs. I'm not sure, but I suspect
that there's a UL safety test to insure that the power cords cannot be
used for lynchings. If not, this incident is sufficient justification
for additional plastic insulation and yet another safety standard.
As for burning the dog meat, an electric or gas oven is not a suitable
method of cooking dog. It should be either barbequed or impaled on a
skewer and slowly roasted over an open fire.

San Diego police are investigating one in a series of drive-by paintball
attacks as a hate crime.
Police received reports of three attacks in the North Park and Hillcrest
area Monday night involving a dark sedan with as many as three people
shooting paintballs at passersby.
In an attack at the San Diego Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender
Community Center at University Avenue and Center Street around 9:30
p.m., the suspects were heard yelling anti-gay slurs out the window.
"The passenger had a gun of some kind in his hand and I heard just one
pop after another go off," said Raymond Penko.
Penko was standing in the parking lot outside The Center with five other
people when the suspects' car drove by. He was hit in the head and the
leg with paintballs and saw one of his friends hit in the forehead.
He said at first he thought he was being shot by bullets and described
it as the most frightening display of hate he's every experienced.
"It scared the hell out of me," Penko said.
Two other similar incidents were reported around 10:30 p.m. police said.
One was reported at 30th and Howard. Another incident was reported in
the 4100 block of Idaho.
Police say they're investigating the one incident here in Hillcrest as a
hate crime -- but so far, not the other two.

Those were carbon-zinc batteries.
I have a red laser pointer that uses overpriced AAAA batteries.
Tearing apart a 9V alkaline battery provides me with a cheap supply.

1. Was this done on purpose?
2. Do all 9v have AAAA inside?
My green laser pointer uses AAAA.

** An alkaline cell will not explode just because it's terminals are
shorted.
But it very likely WILL explode if it is charged with a significant
current - this is why there are warnings on all such cells against
charging and installing them in reverse.
By shorting a 6 cell battery, the above rule was breached - cos soon as
one cell became flat, the others began forcing charge into it at a very high
rate.

Actually three phase service from the power company with the
phases 120 degrees apart, would work differently. In a 'Y'
connection if the voltage between the phases were X volts, the
voltage from one phase to neutral would be x/sqrt(3) rather than
x/2 as is the case with a center tapped transformer.

You're free to call it whatever you like.. and everyone that hears you call
single-phase items 2-phase instead, is free to find humor in it, or suspect
that you're uninformed, or lesser of you (without giving you any
indications).
Kinda like referring to an item with a perfectly practical/widely familar
name "a thingy", or a (something) thingy.
Superstitious would be applicable in the early years of the last century
when folks actually believed that distributed electricity was "fire on a
wire".
It was a mysterious power to be feared by many folks in backwoods/mountain
places in Appalachia for a significant portion of last century, and that
same term can be heard in documentary films of that area of the country.
Think what you like, but if you present yourself as being wiser or more
reasonable wrt the subject, it's essentially just trolling.. and since you
study proper usenet protocol, you know that's the equivalent to numerous
simultaneously performed deadly sins.
It's likely no one gives a FRA what you prefer to call single-phase,
however, many usenet folks will likely continue to attempt to correct you at
your use of the term 2-phase, primarily because it's not applicable to the
subject matter.. and just because 2-phase power is essentially non-existent.
As I suggested in my first reply in this thread.. essentially debated to
hell'n back, and still, there are still those defending the use of the term
2-phase.

Having a couple of decades experience in servicing/repair of commercial and
consumer electronic equipment and additional training and experience in
industrial site experience (both electrical and electronic circuits), I have
never seen descriptions or designations stated as 2-phase, for any type of
transformer.
Or: Hey bub, you gotta single-phase-in, 2-phase-out transformer?
But I have seen and used transformers with multiple taps, on both pri and
sec sides.
The number of taps on either side of a single-phase transformer don't change
the output(s) to 2-phase, regardless of how many there are (pri or sec
side).
Monophase sounds odd, like it's not related to electricity.
How about uniphase? Yep, found an example (and diphase) used in a book c
1905.
Electricity In Every-day Life Edwin J. Houston PhD. You know that's gonna be
interesting just because it was authored by a PhD.

Two pins on the FT-60 battery pack. The radio must have a built in sense
circuit that shuts off the charge. And that does happen because after say
8 hours using the cig plug to charge the battery is cool. However, the
battery pack in question never does warm. But when charged via the rapid
drop charger it not only charges and displays the same 8.3 volts when the
radio is turned on but lasts as long as the other battery. Go figure that
out.

I didn't notice mention of any series resistor, and I have generators
of both 50 ohm and 600 ohm
output, but I guess if it doesn't blow out, it will be OK. !! Good
tip.

Or you can order a blue ESR meter kit from Anatek, solder it together and it
gives you readings and a reference chart to determine good and bad caps.
Much faster and convenient. Plus you have the fun and satisfaction of
building it yourself.
BTW: there not that expensive

I think Phil's point here was if you only wanted to check a couple of
capacitors that you don't need to buy the kit.
Of course if you are servicing machines then an ESR meter is rather
handy...(and we sell the Bob Parker design - Anatek BLUE ESR kit (rather
shameless plug)).
There are also links at the bottom of my original ESR page for
alternative testers including a $0.99 version (yes, that's 99 US cents -
or 98 cents Canadian these days;-).

Reminds me of a time where a lab device tipped over and spilled
mercury all over the place.
It was some kind of storage device as I can recall. I gladly left the
room, while some
poor fool had to wipe it up.

Where I have a CFL that gets "bump" exposure (workshop, trouble light)
the CFL is bagged in a freezer grade plastic bag with a tight tape
wrap around the base. Not perfect, but better than a totally exposed
bulb.

John
I am amazed that the mercury in CFLs is getting so much
attention. There has been mercury in all fluorescent lamps since
their inception. If you break a four foot tube there is a lot
more mercury there than in a CFL.

you don't wipe a spill like that, you vacuum with a trap bottle.

When I was in USAF PME (precision measurement equipment)school in
Denver, during the exam for the Pressure,Temperature and Dimensional
block,an instructor had set a pressure regulator FAR too high, and even
though the student being tested configured everything right,as soon as a
valve was cracked open, the high pressure caused a mercury barometer to spew
mercury like a fountain, mercury all over the test room.
they had to evacuate, shut down the room, and clean up before testing could
resume. at least a pint of mercury got spilled,IIRC. Cleanup took quite a
while.

Ah for simpler times... Back in High School chemstry class
one of the students dropped a 1/2 quart jar of Mercury on
the floor.
"That shit's expensive" so we were all on our hands and knees
chasing it around with 3x5 cards scooping it back up and
dribbling it into a new jar.
And tell me I'm not the only one that looked forward to
"Replacement fluorescent lamp day" at the local market.
My friends and I would run off with 50-60 8' lamps and
go have an epic sword fight until they were all broken.

If you think you're a real technician, just wait until a little girl
brings you her dead Furby she loves and begs you to resurrect him/her/it.
30 years of military and civilian electronics repair experience is no
match for a dead Furby.
After considerable research into Furby electro-mechanics, I discovered an
intermittent limit switch in the flambastic transwobulator had sent
negative vibrations to the transwobulator's flabillitator in such a way
that further transwobulation was impossible as it put the transwobulator
into a state very simular to a human coma.
A couple of strokes of my relay contact burnisher and a tiny squirt of
magic WD-40 brought Furby back from the grave, much to the delight of his
owner, who now thinks I have more magic powers than any religious leader
in the Universe....(c;]
I'm terrified more dead Furbys will materialize at the hands of crying
little girls who are born to wrap 65 year old electronics technicians
around their little fingers......Failure is not an option!
Absolutely nothing I ever repaired, calibrated or overhauled has been
anywhere near as rewarding at that dead Furby.
(Service hint - Mommy does NOT know what batteries in the drawer are dead
and which ones are good, even though she thinks they are "new".)

Additional service hint - Furby's skin comes off like a t-shirt once you
cut the tywrap from around his bottom groove. Don't forget to replace his
tywrap upon successful completion because "we don't want anyone to see him
naked."....her words...(c;]
