But you do have SEVERE mental problems, Birdbrain!

At least 5 different times in 15 years my house has had 1 or 2 devices
die immediately when there was lighting around or someone ran into a
power pole. At least 4 times 1 or more devices failed within a couple
of weeks.

I'd say all appliances should be replaced by the power company if any
in the house failed, or at least anything that fails in the next 5
years should be replaced when it fails.

Also: A UPS is more likely to get fried itself in the cases like
in the above report. House MOV seems like the only hope to
protect from these events.

I just don't have the severe things like above. I'm just catering for loss of power for a few seconds, and for the voltage being out a bit.

Went to the pub with my girlfriend last night.
Locals were shouting "paedophile!" and other names at me, just because my girlfriend is 21 and I'm 50.
It completely spoilt our 10th anniversary.

I'm guessing, but any chance you're running 4K devices that require
HDMI 2.0 and use HDCP? This video explains the potential problem with
older HDMI standards:

Thanks for responding. The Denon isn't that old, it has 4K capability.
I have to check with Denon because a Roku which had been seen by
the Denon is now no longer visible. This is a story worth telling:

Like most receivers the Denon has a very elaborate remote and the
unit is dead in the water without it. I like to have a backup
remote but my faithful learning remote can't handle the Denon
codes so I have been shopping for a universal remote which will
operate the Denon. I tried two versions of the RCA units and
the best they could do was turn the receiver on and off. Last
night I tried a Sony RM-VZ320. The instructions that come with
universal remotes don't give a key mapping so after finding
that the power button can turn the unit on/off, you have to
experiment with the buttons to find their functionality.
So, I found that buttons 1-6 switched between different
inputs of the receiver. So far so good. Button 7 seemed
to switch to an aux input. Buttons 8,9 didn't seem to
do anything until I found that if you pressed these buttons
you lost the HDMI sound connection on whatever input you
were watching when you pressed the buttons. After spending
some time on the phone with Sony "technical support" it
turns out that they have no idea of what the buttons do. Support
means they look up the device code from the same data sheet
that comes with the device. After spending over an hour
trying to recover sound on the two inputs I lost because
of the Sony I did a factory reset on the receiver and
restored functionality on those inputs. However, the factory
reset caused the Roku to disappear after it had been
working with the Denon.

Good video, and setting up to watch this video revealed
another shocking thing about the Denon: it seems that
if no input is sending audio through the HDMI connection
on any input to the Denon when the reveiver is turned on
no HDMI input is recognized by the Denon. Some consequence
of this may be my whole problem.

Thanks again Jeff.

My coworker has a Miller Aerowave TIG welder. It did work
previously. Now it does not work. The amps display shows a very HIGH
number that cannot be adjusted with amperage knob. It does weld at
that extremely high setting and melts welding rods.

I have some pictures of the welder and board LEDs at:

Would anyone suggest a solution? Also does anyone know a good welder
repair shop on the Chicago area? Thanks

Just a stab in the dark.

Is the current set by a potentiometer?

If one end has gone open it could be pulled high or low causing the
welder to think you want full current.

If you're confident of not electrocuting yourself, try to measure the
voltage on the wiper of the potentiometer as you wind it up and down and
see if it sweeps up and down.

I'm not familiar with high end welders and can't believe how much
electronics there are inside that one!

Might be something related to the foot-switch? Not sure how they work
together with the knob settings...

Have you downloaded the owners manual:

https://www.millerwelds.com/files/owners-manuals/O319H_MIL.pdf

Looks like a nightmare inside without the full tech manual to guide you
around. Much more complicated than the Millermatic I'm trying to
repair...

I see you found the Miller Forum. Nobody has jumped forward to help you
so far but it hasn't been up long. You might get a tech manual from
that site if you ask nicely :)
