At the moment only diodes , but what about more sophisticated stuff?
Required a way of holding 2 of the tiniest (2mm long dimension) SMD
devices in registration , to solder together . Used a 6 pole rare earth
magnet from a VCR motor. Also broke a chip off to epoxy to the end of a
matchstick as a manipulator, for transfering to pcb and holding in place
while first solder dab.
Any devices a definite no-no for high local magnetism? , presumably some
SMD termination metal is not ferrous for one thing.

I cannot imagine stray magnetism to be a concern for SMD devices these days. And given how many times very, very powerful magnets are used for cleaning materials and separating contamination artifacts from parts.

That being written:

a) There are magnet-based pick-and-place devices deployed for SMD devices already.
b) There are magnetic clamping and holding devices already deployed for boards and other parts. Their outstanding virtue is no moving parts.

NOTE: Reed and other sensitive mechanical relays using internal magnets may be damaged by excessive stray fields. So keep that in mind.

Otherwise, have-at.

slightly OT ...

is there a common response in qualifying specs to the naming of BANDIT BLASTER KILLER AMP DOA SONIC GUN et al .....

is this quality ? quality what ? R&R Hard Rock Virgil Fox ? I'd guess that is the intended market but does that work or is the naming just a ploy for cheap outputs

He said it was a notepad with Android. It is not strange having only a
front camera . for video-conferencing, not for photo taking.

Not really that strange and quite common. For example, all laptops
and Chromebooks only have one camera facing the user. That's good for
video chat (Skype) but really awkward for taking camera photos.

Some feature phones have only a front facing camera, suitable for
taking pictures, but not selfies or video chat. For these, there are
clip on mirrors for redirecting the image:
<http://forum.xcitefun.net/front-facing-camera-with-a-clip-on-mirror-t59495.html>
or for user facing cameras on smartphones:

No clue if these things are actually useful or if they don't mangle
the image.

I thought I heard that Windows 10's claim to fame was specialty in the video watching and video game area.

Years ago some item of consumer electronics was reportedly rescued from the
rubble after a gas explosion destroyed a block of flats, the fact it still
worked was why it made the news.

Too long ago to remember details, but it might have been a stereo
amplifier - not a clue about make or model.

The 19 is no slouch either. Same basic philosophy, two monoblocks in the same box sharing an on/off switch.

I got both my examples for pocket change - but at different times - as they both displayed the same problem - intermittent left channel.

Whatever else HK did and used with these amps, the input jacks were perhaps the cheapest they could fine, and I think that they may have specified crap directly as I could not find after-market devices of the same wretched quality.

In any case, replaced the jacks and rewired the inputs and all has been well since. Since that time, I have repaired two other 19s with the same problem.

Judging by the hard drive I recovered from an abandoned Dell - the sort of
person that collects virus.

The only thing that cleaned it was the same thing that cleaned up the mess
last time W10 imploded - I installed Linux and used it for a couple of days
before deleting the partitions and starting over with W10.
