Hi,

This question concerns a JVC TK-1070U camera connected to a Hauppauge
pci framegrabber card.

Specs for a similar JVC TK-870U are here.
http://pro.jvc.com/prof/attributes/specs.jsp?model_id=MDL100970&feature_id=03

A photo of the Hauppauge NTSC/NTSC-J 26552 is here.

The following lines are from mpv in Debian stretch. Reference
https://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2017/10/msg00080.html .

[tv] supported norms: 0 = NTSC-M;
...
[tv] tv.c: norm_from_string(pal): Bogus norm parameter, setting default.

Suggests that the camera is delivering PAL whereas the card recognizes
only NTSC-x. Correct?

Thanks, ... Peter E.

connect the camera to an NTSC monitor and see what happens?

Yep. I like it. I did some searching through various online patent
search databases and did not find anything even close. Plenty of
semi-log paper graphs, but nothing suitable for writing. They all
have the necessary semi-log horizontal lines, but they also have
equally spaced vertical lines, which makes it difficult to use as
writing paper.

I think it just might be patentable. No clue how you're going to sell
the idea to a manufacturer of rules writing paper. It's far too easy
to clone and steal:

If you like researching patents, I have another one for you. This was a
joint invention with a colleague, also decades ago, and mostly about
coming up with the name...

"Panickers" (panic + knickers). An incontinence garment specifically to
cope with the gut impact of sudden fright!

The issue is not the number of letters/symbols in an alphabet.
The issue is not the amount of white space on a page.
The issue is all about clarity of communication.

Symbols that increase clarity or reduce the potential for confusion are good.
Symbols that are there based merely on form or tradition do neither.

The additional i does nothing for Aluminium.
The additional u does nothing for Colour, Behaviour et.al.

Tongue firmly in cheek.

By the way, Surveyors have been using a decimal scale for hundreds of years (since 1620) - the Chain Scale. In the US, the Ramsden Scale (1785) divided feet into 10ths, and Chain Scale tapes are still used by surveyors to this day -those not using GPS devices, that is. Note that most surveyor measurements are in decimals.

Ain't history fun?

Are you talking about a specification of the player or an observed symptom?
Does the player play music CDs?
Have you cleaned the player lens?
Does your MP3 CD play in other players?
CD players are designed to ignore major flaws in the data stream
caused by dirt and scratches. Playing MP3s might not be that forgiving.

The automobile is a VERY hostile place for an optical drive.
It gets very hot and there's lots of plastic to outgas and land
on the laser system.

I bought a MP3 CD player for my car. Worked ok with pristine
CDs for about a year. Then it quit. I cleaned the lens system
and it worked for about another year. I gave up and plugged
a SD card into the slot and have been using that since.
The SD slot wouldn't play anything bigger than a 2GB card.

Yeah it is. I'd forgotten about your answer and Houston Paul's and I
started a new likely-to-be short thread.

>My overall recommendation is screw all these adapters and replace the radio.

I looked at other radios but this one has GPS and a map and I know I'll
get bored by it in a while, but not yet, so maybe then I'll replace the
radio.
>were still made of steel and although it took me 3 attempts over 3 days to

Not me.

>I'd do it again in a
>heartbeat.

It's easier now because you don't have to lie on your back with your
head under the dash. Things go in and out from the front.

But there are still other things that require one's head under the dash,
and I'm 70 y.o. now. That's not really a problem but they weight I
gained is.

>don't plug the phone/ipod in, the radio does a search for a bluetooth

A lot of them, all that I saw, keep the SWC (steering wheel controls,
that's the abbreviation they use.) still working. It seems a challenge
to make the SWC, the radio, the adapter, and a cell phone all work
together.

>All those adapters have their place but for long term enjoyment, replace the
>radio.

Some day maybe. But for $10 I bought a Wireless to FM transmitter.
They sell them for as little as $3 but you have to wait until they come
from China. It seems to work pretty well with my little SanDisk Clip. I
glued a kitchen match to it to fill in the space and used a rubber band
to hold them together.

The Clip holds 4Gig and the SD card holds another 4Gig, but you can get
up to 8 plus 32gig. 3Gig holds about 2000 songs (I'm going to use Find
Everything to find and delete the duplicates, which have (1 , (2, or (3
in the title, buit there are about 1100 distinct 50's and 60's songs,
and there are even more on a different station.) I'm going to start on
podcasts science and history podcasts (Science Friday and Back Story) in
a couple days.

I thought the $18 item referred to in the new thread would not fit my
radio, but after a while I decided it should. It should come within a
week. So it's only 18 instead of 200. No bluetooth but no one calls me
anyhow. And I guess the USB jack won't accomplish anything, but the
3.5mm jack should plug straight into the MP3 player, so I won't need the
wireless then.
