major <maj7789@aolspam.net>: Nov 04 10:00PM -0500 I am using a 12 V 20 amp lamp dimmer to control some LED lighting. While my two DVM's show nearly equal input voltage to the dimmer, they both read separate voltages on the output side. One is reading 9 V and the other 4 V. I am trying to determine wattage output at various dimmer settings. Why the different in voltage readings on two different DVM's and how to remedy? |

OR the controller use high frequency PWM and one meter cannot read it. Next time, leave out all the facts just to make it harder. .... Phil |

Phil Sorry, the meters are a GE2524 Digital Multimeter that reads the 9V and the other meter is a Etek 10709 that reads 4 V. The dimmer is one from Amazon (sorry, 30 amps not 20 as I said originally): https://www.amazon.com/Lighting-Controller-Solution-Eliminate-Connecting/dp/B076MVT1CR Not sure about dimmer frequency, but I can hear a faint whine as it runs. |

They're just one of many DeWalt parts dealers online. <https://www.google.com/search?q=dewalt+drill+parts> However, the parts are rather expensive so I prefer to buy broken power tools on eBay and cannibalized them for the parts I need. That's one reason why I have so many DeWalt drills and impact drivers. I buy one for parts, which can be used to fix several others. <https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=DeWalt+drill+for+parts> -- Jeff Liebermann jeffl@cruzio.com 150 Felker St #D http://www.LearnByDestroying.com Santa Cruz CA 95060 http://802.11junk.com Skype: JeffLiebermann AE6KS 831-336-2558 |

Be prepared for a learning curve, I've struggled and I'm an engineer who had to take drawing and CAD in school. But for what you want you're probably okay, lots of youtube videos. I am not so worried about the software. It has to have its roots in some CAD system from some source, and all that aside, I do use some other fairly complex systems every day such as Metasys, not to mention the standard Microsoft Office suite. Yes, I am prepared for the learning curve and I have a good deal of patience (other than for fools). You Tube can be a mixed bag, but often quite useful. Early on, I will be duplicating rather than creating, hence the need for a scanner. I also spent a number of years as a machinist - back in the day. I tripped over a lot of Porto-Baradios, and, amazingly and from separate sources (thrift-stores), three complete sets of glassware up to and including the swizzle-sticks. Between the five (5) of them, at this point I need a total of six handles, two faceplates and four knobs. I could cast them, but a 3D printer would, in my opinion, a better option once I got the first ones done properly. And there would be a brisk market for them at Kutztown. I will look into the Ender as well as any other forthcoming suggestions. The kids want to get this for me for Christmas, and I will give them a "matching grant" to increase their budget, if needed. But right now, they have agreed on a rough budget of $250 each towards this. https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/porto-baradio-model-9008a-stewart-warner Peter Wieck Melrose Park, PA |

Ordinarily I would agree, but we're kind of fascinated watching Jeff making Edward (Charger Boy) Herpesdez do the sit and spin. Once our over/under pool is won, we'll killfile him. Right now he's providing both amusement - sort of like watching a mouse in a maze. |

etpm@whidbey.com: Nov 04 04:20PM -0800 I think you will find it hard to get a budget 3D scanner and 3D printer to make acceptable knobs with any type of fine detail. Or fine finishes for that matter. Some folks print stuff using ABS and then polish the stuff in an acetone vapor chamber of some sort. That can work pretty well. But still the best resolution of inexpensive printers is ends up to be, in a practical sense, about .25mm, or .010" at the finest. The cheapest 3D scanners that will scan stuff to a resolution of .1mm, or .004" start at about 700 bucks.
