Just in case other user needs them in a near future you can measure
secondary voltages and post them here.

I believe that can happen if you have several batteries wired up in
series (as here) and one or more of them is substantially weaker than
the others. If you keep operating the device beyond the point at
which the weakest battery runs down to zero, the other batteries will
keep pushing current through it. This can create a situation called
"over-discharge", and depending on the specifics of the battery
chemistry it can cause the over-discharged battery to "charge up in
reverse" a bit, and develop a reverse-polarity output voltage.

Over-discharge will damage NiCd (and I suspect NiMH) cells, and I
believe it can cause alkaline cells to start leaking.

The better brands of alkaline batteries usually come with an
on-the-package warning that all of the batteries in a set should be
replaced at the same time, and that you shouldn't mix different types
of batteries in a set. This is why. You really want 'em all to run
down at the same time.

Thanks for the advice. Yes, two 7815 regulators on board.

What had me puzzled was the fact that if I hit the ON/OFF switch 50
times I got a split second of light from the ON LED once out of those
50. An open winding would not do that.....

Thanks to several YouTube videos about transformers, I found that this
transformer had a built in thermal fuse. I sure dont know why... Heck
the old transformers that had a lot more voltage and current on tube
gear never had thermal fuses.

Anyhow, I removed several layers of tape and insulation from the
windings and found that thermal fuse. I removed it, soldered the wires,
and reinsulated it with tape and epoxy glue.

Transformer works again, and the whole mixer works great.

Im not worried about the lack of a thermal fuse. The mixer has a half
amp fuse on the power line. And if you ask me, those thermal fuses are
only put there to sell costly replacement transformers. They may be good
in a coffee maker or hair dryer, but seem useless on a low current small
transformer.

I'd still like to find a schematic for this SSM-1750 Radio Shack mixer
in case anyone finds one online..... Or I'll pay postage and copying
fees for a printed paper photocopy. I intend to keep and use this mixer.

I picked up a plastic robotic horse at a rummage sale for the kids. It
walks and makes sounds. But it didnt work. For a couple bucks it was
cute enough the kids would like it even if it didnt work. I removed the
4 aa alkaline batteries and using my multimeter I found 2 of them were
good and two of them were weak and had the polarity reversed.

They appear to be the batteries that came with the toy. The toy is
dated 2018. Both toy and batteries were made in China.

How can batteries get reversed polarity???? Thats a new one for me....
(Of course if they were made in China, so anything is possible I guess).

By the way, with new batteries it works perfectly....

So you admit I'm correct.

No it isn't. If you have an item you're clearing out and are thinking of flogging it on Ebay, and it weighs a lot, you can only make the value minus the postage.

You've never tried it here. There aren't enough people using Facebook, and it's fucking disorganised. On Gumtree, things are in categories, you can search for things, you can set up email alerts for when someone sells something you're looking for.

It's a huge sample wen you look at what everyone is selling on Gumtree in the whole country, compared to FB.

It's "less". Do you have a separate word for more dependant on countability?

But the CRTs have mostly died, so there's a lot less available.

Re: Repair Clinics http://www.dvhrc.com/pdfs/Oscillator%20Summer%202019.pdf Go to page 7. That is a shot from the September 2018 Kutztown Meet showing me at the repair table. I am fussing with a Hickok 6000 tube tester for the younger gentleman in front of me. The older gentleman behind me to the left is an observer. The speaker is sitting on the Iso-Variac (Blue Box). Hidden behind the speaker are the transmitters for Radio Free Kutztown, and various tools-of-the-trade including a Fluke meter are on my right. You will note an articulated light, a silicon baking pad and that I work over an old towel - dropped screws don't bounce on a towel, and a hot soldering iron makes no impression on a baking pad, nor does hot solder.

Also not shown are the big Hickok 539B tube tester, the signal tracer and generator, LCR and ESR meters.

Shows a shot from the actual event announced in the previous article, same lamp, and the tube tester. Same towel, same red baking mat.
