I heard that SPAMMERS run these proxies
to skim userid/pw's for web based e-mail
accounts from proxy users to send SPAM with.

You wouldn't skim information going through
your proxy would you?

Your SPAM ostensibly was posted from Egypt ( or using a proxy in
Egypt) .
The proxy advertized is registered as being in the UK.

You used GODADDY (USA) and you appear to be targeting
your SPAM to promote your proxy site to people in the USA.

If a site is blocked, prohibited or encoded
then wouldn't the use of such a proxy
be a violation of the United States Federal
Digital Millennium Copyright Act?

( reverse engineering or circumventing security? )

If overcoming prohibition or blockage isn't
enough to run afoul of DMCA, then I would
think that accessing an encoded site might.

Come to think of it, the only encoded (encrypted)
sites I know of are anonymous remailers and
banking sites. What other sites are encrypted?

It's particularly interesting that when another
proxy outfit promoted themselves to the
anonymous remailer usenet groups, it
was seen widely as an effort to SNOOP.

Much as several anonymous remailer servers
have turned out to be operated by law
enforcement or intelligence agencies or both.

I don't know if any of those ever skimmed
passwords, banking or credit card information.

You wouldn't be hoping that somebody
forgets you might be watching, would you?

Perhaps it depends on the distance from them, or maybe the design of the
blades. Either way, noisy or not, they are still a blot on the landscape,
and IMHO, a huge waste of resources for the relatively small amount of power
that they generate. And actually, who's to say that by 'stealing' the wind,
they don't cause some 'butterfly effect' elsewhere ? :-) Little of what
man does actually has a zero effect on his environment ...

On what Dave says about the distant sound of aircraft etc, it's strange how
that noise is missed when it's not there. When I was a kid, my mother had
ticking clocks all over the house. You never noticed them when they were
running, but if one had stopped, you could hear that it had, as soon as you
walked through the front door.

Likewise, did you notice it when the volcano grounded all the air traffic ?
It was preternaturally quiet outside ( I live in the countryside, so it's
quite quiet anyway). Even the birds and other animals seemed unnaturally
quiet, so presumably, they could hear that there was nothing to hear as
well, and they didn't like it. When we had that earthquake a couple of years
back in the early hours, I was sitting here at the computer, and some
minutes before it rumbled through under the house, the cows in the field
behind the house, as well as owls and foxes, went bananas, so I guess they
must have been able to sense it coming.

'whoosh-whoosh', and that with a standard 3 blade unit. There are spiracle
types made to make even less noise.

I think people that don't want alternative energy are equating windmills
with giant fans, which make much more noise because they are moving air, and
not air moving them.. BIG difference!

Hi all

Anyone got any service info for the Pioneer DC-X303 ? It's getting on a bit,
but the good old Pioneer service site in the UK, only has user manuals
available for download. At this stage, I'm in need of schematics -
particularly in the power supply area. It looks as though it might have a
relatively straightfoward problem with one of the rails, but without a
diagram to confirm the levels that they should be at, that could be a red
herring.
