My bad. I didn't check my facts before posting and was going from memory.
That's the bug I was referring to.

Correct.

Ditto. I've seen this with other products. They fail to work correctly
outside the case or cabinet, for no obvious reason, but (after hours of
frustrating troubleshooting) they work correctly when put back.

That would be my advice also. Get it mounted proper in a case and see
what happens. Not only the proper grounding but the proper airflow over
the devices.

Thanks for the continued input everyone. Most recent developments: I
again tried the Win 7 on my new SATA, but with a known-good PSU, and it
froze in about 15 minutes. So it's not the PSU. After this, I loaded a
32 bit copy of XP Pro on an IDE drive, and the machine has run for about
4 hours without a freeze (I should add I loaded Win 7 previously on this
same drive, and it froze like it did on the SATA). During the time the
machine has been running fine under XP Pro, the PC has been surfing the
internet on one monitor, while continuously playing .VOB videos on VLC
with the audio muted on a remote plasma (like the older build this one
is to replace, I use the computer for general PC use as well as for a
HTPC), while also playing a 2 hour MP3 on Winamp. One possible
conclusion from this that either the PC, or the video card, does not
like 64 bits. Reading the reviews of the board on Newegg, many people
seem to be running Win 7 64 bit with no problem, so I'm guessing it's
not that the MOBO has a problem with that OS. Am I correct that it would
be unlikely for either the RAM or the CPU to be intolerant of 64 bit Win 7?
BTW, ran Memtest for ~ 3 hours. No errors.
I'm considering replacing the vid card, since it seems a very likely
suspect. I'm not a gamer (though this gear should be up to it), so I
don't need anything tooooo drastic (read, EXPENSIVE). As JL suggested,
I'm wondering about the PCI E 2.0 slots. Also, I've been using a X16
slot (MOBO also has X8 slots). Could the Vid card be the culprit? And
opinions on this card for my applications:

Got given this coffee machine.
Aroma Coffee 12 Digital (PC4700)
Fault:
When powering it on (digital panel) it turns straight off and the
element never gets to heats up.
This digital panel I assume control the usage etc. But also
controls the On/Off. The buttons themselves seem functional.
I can hear a relay trip once when it turns it self off again.
I've pulled to bits to check for obvious problems.
I'm thinking I'm looking at a round Thermistor (see below links)
that attaches directly to the element and it appears wired to the
mains voltage (230-240v here) on the power/relay board on the right
side of the photo.
Would it be safe to assume this is a good chance of being the
problem? I'm going to resolder that large resistor on the board in
case its dried just in case.
The digital board I'll leave unless you think something warrants
investigating. But its pretty much an IC and a LCD panel. The
clock on it works find untill you press the on button and it drops
power completely.
If it is the Thermistor how can I test it with a meter?
I know enough to avoid a shock but not sure would it be open or
closed or what. Need some help here.
Your ideas are welcome on this (cant wait to try the coffee).

That's a thermal switch, not a thermistor. It should be closed.

Thanks for the reply...
So that is normally closed at all times unless it hits the temp
threshold? Even in a no power state?
How would it be acting if faulty?

The convergence amp failed again on this set and damaged something on the
mainboard, so I'm junking this set rather than gamble any more money on it.
I have the full chassis here, including 3 good CRTs (blue one needs the
coolant changed). I also bought a new convergence processor board for it,
I'm asking $50 for that. The rest of it is open to offers.
If anyone wants parts from this let me know soon, otherwise it is going on
the trash (except for the convergence processor, I will list that on eBay).

I'm looking for recommendations for an MP3 player with FM transmitter for
use in an automobile that only has a basic AM-FM radio.
Here's a list of the features that I would like to have:
Accepts USB flash drives of at least 16 Gb, preferably up to at least 32 Gb
Displays MP3 data such as song title & artist (if it's in the MP3 file, of
course), folder name, etc.
Allows navigation of folders
Ability to select FM broadcast frequency
Remembers last selection after power down
Rewind & fast forward
Repeat & random
Includes remote control
Strong FM signal is good... I don't like noisy music.
I've looked at some listed on Amazon.com and a couple of Asian sources, but
I'd like to hear recommendations (pros and cons) from someone who has actual
experience with them. I'm not looking for bottom dollar units, but want
good value for the money.
Thanks for the help

If you already have the player you can buy a transmitter.

Well, I finally got off my butt and performed the due diligence
that I should have performed before buying.
Turns out there is something to the price diff.
The cheaper one that failed had a significant feature set diff.
Battery life, number of strokes per minute, pressure warning
light, and maybe more.
The bottom line I came away with is that I should have sprung for
one of the even more expensive ones that had the sonic cleaning
feature - which users report leaves the teeth feeling like they
do right after a professional cleaning.

What comprises "sonic" cleaning is a matter of opinion. However, the current
Oral-Bs, and all the Sonicares, do/did a sufficiently good job of cleaning
that your teeth are "squeaky" clean -- runbbing a clean, dry fingertip over
them produces sound.
