I accidentally wound up with an extra set of NiMH batteries and it's
going to be quite a long time before the first set goes South and I need
the second - as in 1-2 years at least.

How would you store that extra set so as to maximize it's
life/availablity?

Fully-charged ?

As they came in the box ?

Something else ?....

Or just bite the bullet and figure on them not surviving that long on
the shelf ?

How about swapping them out in the device every couple months? That might
preserve them. I think if one is just left sitting, it will go bad.

Now *That* is a battery manual....

Thanks.

"When charging for the first time after long-term
storage, deactivation of reactants may lead to
increased battery voltage and decreased battery
capacity. Restore such batteries to original
performance by repeating several cycles of
charging and discharging."

I guess that explains the "Refresh" button on the SunLabz charger I got
for these things.

Inside the amp (high voltages etc) a shard of thick aluminium foil.
Does anyone fully strip off the screening foil on the insides of the
cab, both ends of the amp, and spray with "Tempest" proofing nickel
RF/EMI spray.
Or as valve stuff anyway, just remove those sheets of aluminium foil and
how much extra noticeable hum?
Was it just to save the cost of closing the chassis, at both ends, with
expensive full thickness steel?

I have a table radio that used to have one stranded wire coming out
the back, about a foot long, which I think was the AM or FM antenna.

I want to replace it. Is there an optimum length for such a wire? Is
that measured from the variable capacitor? (I haven't opened this
radio yet, but that's where I usually see antenna wires connected.)

Thanks.

The AM is usually a loopstick inside the radio. That is for FM. The length really doesn't matter much.

On AM, the loopstick antenna is part of the tuned circuit and is sensitive. On the other hand, FM pretty much tolerates anything. Unless you want to find the correct ground and impedance and make a proper antenna like those T type ones, just don't worry about it. One wire going to the screw that is the farthest away from ground, any length you like.

If a wire has one end, then it has another.
That ought to be adequate...

There is a lot of literature on the "correct" antenna length for a table radio - but what you need to keep in mind is that where inches/cm matter is for FM. For AM and SW, the typical response would be "the longer the better" - and within broad limits, that is the case.

Will help you with the specifics.

Loss of clean channel intermittently, dirty channel ok.
Both clean switches have no contacts made in clean mode.
I'll replace the clean vol control, but nothing obviously wrong. No
obvious solder problems in that area.
Anyone know if anything of the clean ch,separately, goes through the
digital effects pcb.? 3 pcb fixings only on 3 of 4 corners, allowing one
corner to lift with vibration, the header side. I'll reset pins and fit
a cable tie over that corner (too populated to have a 4th fixing)
When I can repower I'll remove the dsp board and see what that does

I have forty years experience in designing and building machine tool,
robotic and automations systems. Whenever I require a cable that might be
exposed to oil or coolant contamination, or will encounter high rates of
flexing I only specify Olflex. It's more expensive than most, but a lot
less expensive than failure and replacement.
